The Monkey Hut is generally the most popular hostel in Laguna and is the first one you will pass when you get to the Laguna De Apoyo. It is located right on the water, and offers dorm rooms for $10 as well as a private cabana that can be rented out. Guests staying here can use the kayaks, innertubes, floating dock and they sell beers on the honor system. It is the place for backpacker types seeking to socialize with fellow travelers, drink some beers and cook something up in the communal kitchen. The Monkey Hut does not offer food but does have an open kitchen if you bring your own - which you should do before you get out to the Laguna as there is no real store except for two small pulperias with slim pickings. The Monkey Hut also has transportation to and from Granada on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to their sister hostel the Bearded Monkey, which we hear makes killer burritos. In general, this is the hostel to go to if you are looking to meet and hang out with fellow travelers, drink some beers, and be social.
